Helpful Hints for understanding and moving about the SiteGeneral Description and Identification of Features(1) On the starting page called the "Home" or "Welcome" Page there are two silver coloured plates on the site which are "screwed" in place, representing metal nameplates on type cases and machinery. These stay in the same position most, if not all, of the time. (2) Remember, under this 'masthead', slightly to the left and on the horizontal menu bar (see further in note 4 below) is a "Home" button which always returns you to the starting page. Move the mouse pointer over the word 'home' and it will turn white. Click the left mouse button and it will always shift your view back to the top of the "home" page. (3) The top section is really the "Masthead" of Bedplate Press. This 'mast head' is the "title" of the page something like the first page of a newspaper. (4) Importantly there is a horizontal maroon and gold "Menu Bar" with drop down lists. These enable the viewer to shift to a named section. To do this move your mouse pointer over the menu heading and it will turn white and a list will appear. Shift the mouse pointer down the list to a target section and it will turn white. If it's the one you want click the mouse and the site will produce a new viewing section. This menu bar remains in the same place all of the time. (5) The lefthand side "plate" is a second system to link the various pages of the site. This is another kind of "Navigation Bar." Place the mouse over these buttons and the colour of the writing changes. Click the left mouse button and you will be moved to the beginning of the section chosen as on the name of the button. The 'brassy' image on these buttons is a matrix, plural matrices, which are a vital part of the hot metal type casting and 'line-of-type' machines common in the later part of the letterpress era of printing and is a special interest of this web site. See also further discussion in the machinery section. (6) At the bottom is a "Counter" designed to record the number of people who visit the site. (7) Further if you move the pointer of the mouse over the pictures and images it will normally result in a "Yellow Label or Caption" appearing and this gives more information about the feature. (8) On the right hand side of this screen alongside the "white paper" there is a light grey "Scroll Bar." which moves the 'page view' up or down. At the top of the 'scroll bar'is a small square containing an arrow. When you click on this it will move the section being viewed towards the top. Similarly at the bottom is an arrow which when clicked moves the section being viewed towards the bottom. Also on the 'scroll bar' is a rectangular "Slide" which, when "clicked and held", can be dragged to reveal other parts of the section to be viewed. On the 'scroll bar' near the 'arrows" any piece of the bar will, if clicked, behave in the same way as if there was an 'arrow' there. |
